After a dark scene at an elite academy, sisters Caroline and Lucien set out to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. This is the third attempt at a television series based on Okrutne namjere maila (1999). The direct-to-video sequel, Okrutne namjere 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted TV series before being re-edited as a feature film. Gellar reprized her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.
